Itinerary

Sarajevo City Hall

We will start our Sarajevo free walking tour in front of Sarajevo City Hall. Beautiful building from the Austro-Hungarian period. It was made at the entrance of the city and opened in 1896. It was built in a Pseudo-Moorish style. Unfortunately, like many essential buildings in Sarajevo, it was destroyed during the Siege of Sarajevo. It was renovated in 2014, 100 years after the beginning of the First World War.

Baščaršija

Next, we will visit Baščaršija Square, the heart of old town Sarajevo, and explore the ottoman quarter and the oriental charm of cobbled streets.

Old Orthodox Church

It is one of Sarajevo’s oldest and most valuable cultural and historical monuments. It was built in 1539 in the Byzantine style. The church was destroyed and rebuilt many times but always retained an authentic appearance. The current appearance of the church is from the 18th century. The church complex consists of the museum and the cellar, with wines from Herzegovina, the southern part of the country. The museum contains a valuable collection of icons, transcripts, and more than 700 exhibits. It is one of the most important Orthodox museums in the world.

Gazi Husrev Bey's Mosque

Gazi Husrev Bey’s Mosque, located in the heart of Sarajevo’s Baščaršija district, is a masterpiece of Ottoman architecture and a testament to the city’s rich cultural heritage. The mosque complex also includes a madrasa (school), a library, and a clock tower, creating a harmonious space for both worship and education. Gazi Husrev Bey’s Mosque stands as a symbol of the enduring spiritual and architectural legacy of Sarajevo, inviting visitors to appreciate its beauty and historical significance.

Jewish quarter

After the mosque, we will visit the Jewish quarter. You will see Jewish museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This museum is situated in the oldest synagogue in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It’s a journey through time and tradition, a testament to the enduring spirit of a community that has thrived in the face of challenges.

Cathedral of Sacred Heart of Jesus

The Cathedral of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Sarajevo stands as a magnificent testament to both faith and architectural beauty. The cathedral has endured periods of conflict but remains a symbol of resilience and spiritual significance for the people of Sarajevo. After visiting all three multi-confessional religious objects you will see how they are just 100 square meters apart and that is what makes Sarajevo so special.

Latin Bridge

Latin Bridge is one of the most famous bridges in Sarajevo. It is a historical bridge known because it is near the spot where the assassination occurred on June 28, 1914, when Gavrilo Princip killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand, triggering World War I.
