National Museum Sarajevo

The National Museum is the nation’s oldest contemporary cultural and scientific institution of its sort, having been founded in 1888 during the Austro-Hungarian era. The Museum’s first location, in the heart of the city, quickly grew to be too small and inadequate for the expanding collection. Consequently, work on a brand-new museum complex with four pavilions and a botanical garden started in 1909 and was finished and inaugurated in 1913. It was the only purpose-built museum complex in the former Yugoslavia for a considerable period of time. This complex continues to host the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina today.
